PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Welcome to Parkview Special School’s website.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.  The purpose of the website is to give you information about the purpose, life and activities of the school and to reflect our pupil centred ethos.

Parkview is a Controlled co-educational School for pupils with severe learning difficulties aged from 3 to 19.  Some of the children may have additional and/or sensory needs.  We have around 220 pupils enrolled.

The primary aim of the school is to provide a happy and stimulating environment where pupils feel valued and are encouraged and supported to acquire new knowledge and skills and to strive to be the very best that they can be.

The main school building opened in 1996, is set in landscaped grounds on the outskirts of Lisburn.  Additional accommodation has been subsequently been added to increase the number of classrooms to 27.  The purpose-built buildings afford an attractive learning environment and a wide range of specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory rooms and outdoor play areas.

Pupils have regular opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities both within and outside the school environment.  These include swimming, horse-riding, football, art, music, and Duke of Edinburgh programme.

The happy atmosphere in the classrooms underpins the wide variety of activities and experiences, which are provided for each individual pupil at a level and pace to maintain interest and encourage progress.

Parkview truly is a very special school where pupils' needs and their learning come first.
