The Arts

This area of learning comprises the subjects of Art and Design, Drama and Music.  It provides rich opportunities for developing creativity, allowing children to express their ideas, feelings and interpretations of the world through pictures, sound, drama and dance.

Mrs Boyd is the permanent Arts curriculum coordinator for Parkview School. She is also the specialist music teacher who teaches music to all 23 classes throughout the Key Stages. Pupils receive weekly 30 minute sessions specifically targeting the 3 strands of the music curriculum; listening, performing and composing.

Pupils have the opportunity to play and listen to a variety of instruments such as keyboards, xylophones, classroom percussion, Samba drums, African drums, flute and steel drums.

Mrs Boyd manages, conducts and provides materials for the various choral and musical groups within the school such as Parkview Songbirds (vocal choir), Parkview Signz (Makaton choir), Senior Samba band, and Multi-Sensory choir alongside Mr Flanagan (pianist), and Ms Douglas (Speech and Language Therapist), and Ms Curran (Sensory choir coordinator).

These groups rehearse on a weekly basis and perform at many events both in school and in the wider community such as school assemblies, Christmas shows, collaborative musical events with other schools, choral festivals and special appearances at various services and venues in the local community.

Parkview also houses a company of musicians called RiChMusic. They provide access to group and individual sessions and music lessons for Piano, voice, flute, guitar, tin whistle, and clarinet.
